“How often are you unkind towards yourself?”
“How often do you treat yourself with criticism?”
“What inner dialogue is going on within?”
Just let that answer come up within you.
Today’s story is about this master who had this disciple who was very eager to serve the world. He had a lot of urge to be kind and loving and do a lot of service to the world. So he comes to the master like all good disciples, lands up at the master’s feet and says:
Disciple: “I want to change the world. I want to make the world a better place, master. I want to fill this world with kindness. There’s so much anger in this world. There’s so much cruelty. Why are people so nasty to each other?”
Master: ”Ok. I have been watching you for a while. Will you accept what I have to say?”
Disciple: ” Oh yes master, absolutely. I will accept whatever you gift me. I am here to receive”
Master: ” Take this orange”
The disciple takes it.
Master: “Now squeeze the orange.”
So the disciple squeezes it and what happens? As expected the juice come out. When the juice comes out …
Master asks: ” Oh what juice is this?”
Disciple: “What kind of question is that? of course it’s orange juice.”
Master: “Oh! but it should have been mango juice.”
Disciple: “No! It can’t be mango juice, master. It’s orange juice.”
The Master smiles and suddenly the disciple realises he has fallen into the trap, that there is a lesson to be learnt. So he pauses and he pays his respects to the master and says,
Disciple: “Please help me understand?”
What the master said in response was so simple yet incredibly profound. Would you like to know what that was?
