Monday Musings Episode 157 | Are you in prison?

How many times have you said or heard someone say – “How can I forgive them for what they did to me?” or “They don’t deserve my forgiveness” or “If I forgive them, they will take me for granted”

Our concept of forgiveness comes from our childhood where you do something wrong and then your parents ask you to go and apologise. You then say sorry and the other person says “It’s okay” The end. However, in adult life, you find yourself in situations where you’re having to ask for forgiveness from a person who doesn’t even want to accept that they have done something wrong. Nobody is wanting forgiveness from you and you are basically on your own.

So then what is forgiveness? Forgiveness is about cleaning up your energy. Cleaning up the pain and hurt that you are carrying. The sense of feeling wronged or victimhood that is inside of you. You need to clean that up because you deserve to be free.

When we hold on and refuse to forgive, we are the ones that are held captive in the prison of self-righteous anger or resentment.
